UMCA — Ukrainian Museum of Contemporary Art

It is an institution of a new type that brings together professionals of contemporary art in Ukraine, makes it more accessible to different audiences and enables the emergence of a public dialogue about a common future within its territory. UMCA employs the idea of decentralisation, being a network of autonomous institutions in different regions united by a common mission. So the museum's brand identity is built around the idea of horizontal connections — all four letters stay in the same dimension, but maintain their own different positions, and that reflects the autonomy and equality of member institutions.

How are you? (Ти як?)

The goal of the exhibition was to reflect on the experience of Ukrainians during russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and to take a step towards forming a picture of a shared future. For a long time after the start of the full-scale invasion, the only phrase that conveyed the whole spectrum of anxiety, concern and hope was ‘How are you?’. Later, language, including visual language, acquired new meanings and new semantics, striving to embody the new reality in artistic forms.

Szilvashi Circles (Кола Сільваші)

From 13 September to 27 October, 2024, the Ukrainian Museum of Contemporary Art / UMCA and the National Centre ‘Ukrainian House’ presented the project ‘Szilvashi Circles’, a major museum retrospective dedicated to the work and extraordinary personality of one of the main Ukrainian artists of the second half of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. The first museum retrospective of Tiberiy Szilvashi presented his evolving practice: in different contexts, media, and with projects that changed or were never realised. Alongside Silvashi's works, 86 artists were represented on five floors of the Ukrainian House in various forms.
